Both genetic and environmental factors play a significant role in determining the mood of us all. Those that suffer from bipolar disorder feel more than those that do not suffer with the disorder. Either cycle is typically broken by periods where the behaviour of the sufferer appears to be out of sequence with present moods.

The environment plays a significant part in the behaviour of the sufferer. When placed in a potentially destructive environment, one where the temptation to behaviour in a manner with the potential to have a negative effect on behaviour, it’s important that the sufferer remove themselves from the environment.

Studies have proven that erratic sleep has a profound effect on our mood. One of the most effective ways to resolve any sleep issues is to regulate your sleep by exposing yourself to regular light. For this reason light therapy has become an affective form of treatment.

In recent times the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine’s Western Psychiatric Institute, published in the journal of bipolar disorders, have proven that blue light treatment is highly effective in the treatment of mood disorders. Studies have proven that sixty percent of participants experienced positive results with light treatment.

To conclude, light therapy is a highly beneficial form of therapy for a wealth of mood disorders. From SAD to bipolar and other depressive disorders, the use of light therapy will greatly enhance a person’s mood.
